Politics in a Nutshell
Republican Tax Bill May Hurt the Lowest Earners and Help the Richest - The New York Times [[link removed]]
A study done by Penn Wharton found that individuals earning between $17,000 and $51,000 will see on average a $700 reduction in their income after taxes if Trump’s current tax bill goes through. On the other hand, the top 0.1 percent have nothing to worry about. They’re estimated to gain an average of $389,000 in income after taxes. As usual, Trump is focused on helping the rich and doesn’t care if he hurts the poor along the way.
Trump warns big business: Eat my tariffs, or pay the price | CNN Business [[link removed]]
Trump, in a shocking use of presidential power, has attempted to intimidate powerful companies like Walmart into not raising their prices. He’s worried that, rightly, even large companies will be forced to increase costs because of the tariff war he’s put the country through. His ultimate fear is that these higher prices will turn even his own supporters against him.

We wish former President Biden good health and a speedy recovery in light of his cancer diagnosis. The leadership and sacrifice he gave to our nation will not be forgotten.
Representatives on the Record
Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (202) 225-6576
Does Rep. Miller-Meeks support Trump’s tax plan? What about the Medicaid and SNAP they had to cut to get it? How many rural hospitals will close under the Republicans' Medicaid plan? What will happen to the families that relied on these programs? Will their tax break even partly pay for the services they lost? What is she doing to make sure her own constituents (not counting the millionaires) aren’t hurt by this reckless plan?
Representative Ashley Hinson (202) 225-2911
Does Rep. Hinson support Trump’s tax plan? What about the Medicaid and SNAP they had to cut to get it? How many rural hospitals will close under the Republicans' Medicaid plan? Note From the Chair
Hey folks! Rita Hart here.
I had a wonderful time attending Pete Buttigieg’s rally in Cedar Rapids last Tuesday. He brought kindness, humility, and some good-natured jokes to the folks that came out to see him. Even more importantly, he brought answers and hope.
He answered questions that Iowans wanted to ask their own representatives, but have been unable to. That’s due to our Republican Representatives’ consistent lack of public events. You could count all the town halls Miller-Meeks has hosted over the last four years on two hands. Nunn hasn't even bothered to show up for one public town hall.
Pete’s event was refreshing in and of itself, but with our federal representatives failing to show up, there isn’t much competition in the first place. It’s just another entry in the long list of reasons why Iowa needs new representatives come 2026. You can help us make that a reality.
If you want to join your fellow Iowans in their fight for change, you can sign up to volunteer with the Iowa Democratic Party by clicking here [[link removed]] , or check out our events calendar by clicking here [[link removed]] .
To make the change we all want to see, we need to work together. I appreciate your continued involvement and support of the Iowa Democratic Party.
Our work continues,
Sincerely,
Rita Hart
