John,

Imagine this: You’re excited to register to vote and make your voice heard in an upcoming election — just to find out, rather than a typical ID, you may also need an original copy of your birth certificate.

Unfortunately, this could be the reality for millions of Americans. That’s because the SAVE Act, which passed in the House of Representatives in April and is now before the Senate, would require documentary proof of citizenship in person. That means you’d likely have to take time out of your work day to travel to your county’s election office with an original birth certificate or valid U.S. passport for anyone registering to vote for the first time or updating their registration.

The SAVE Act would almost instantly disenfranchise millions of Americans. Don’t have a passport? Lost your original documents in a move or a natural disaster? Got married and changed your last name? Exercising your right to vote suddenly becomes more difficult.

All On The Line is not sitting on the sidelines. When the SAVE Act was introduced in the House, we organized supporters like you to make our stance clear, and collectively, we sent thousands of messages to Congress urging representatives to vote NO. Now, before it moves to a vote in the Senate, we’re continuing to mobilize voters across the entire country to reject one of the most dangerous threats to voting rights in decades — and we need your help.

Let’s defend free and fair elections so we can build a truly representative democracy — this work is only made possible by grassroots supporters like you. Will you donate now to help ramp up our efforts against the SAVE Act and other efforts to take power away from voters? → [link removed]

Here’s the thing John: Unfortunately, we can’t stop there even if we defeat this legislation in the Senate. Some states are using the SAVE Act as a blueprint to attack the right to vote.

IN OHIO…

❗A proposed bill would require documentary proof of citizenship, meaning you’d likely ONLY be able to register to vote or update your registration directly with the county in person. This would end voter registration drives and online voter registration.

❗Ballot drop boxes would be banned, eliminating accessible voting options, leading to long lines and a lengthy process to return ballots in person.

❗If you end up voting through a provisional ballot and fail to provide “proper” documentation afterward, your registration would be automatically canceled.

IN WYOMING…

❗A bill would require anyone registering to vote to present documentary proof of U.S. citizenship. Once again, this is a hardship for many — as replacing original documentation or obtaining a passport can be extremely costly and time-consuming.

IN TEXAS…

❗A bill currently being considered would create proof of citizenship requirements for both voter registration applicants AND existing registered voters.

❗It would even create new criminal penalties for election officials for errors in citizenship verification.

We are witnessing a coordinated attack on democracy at the state and federal levels. It’s not surprising, but it is deeply un-American. This is a moment that requires strong defenders of democracy to step forward and take action.

That’s exactly why we’re here, and why we need you alongside us.
