I wanted to share a clip of my interview with MSNBC about my trip to Mexico to visit an 11-year-old girl with a brain tumor that was deported by the Trump administration.

The girl, who is a U.S. citizen, had a rare brain tumor removed at Texas Children’s Hospital last year. But unfortunately, her condition has started to worsen since she was deported – and her parents are petitioning the Trump administration for an exemption to return to the U.S.

Friend, as someone who has fought cancer and benefited from groundbreaking medical treatment in the United States, I can’t imagine the anguish her family feels as they fight for her care.

The Trump administration’s cruelty and inhumanity is beyond the pale. While they claim to be going after criminals, far too many innocent immigrant families – many with kids or spouses who are U.S. citizens – are getting swept up and denied basic due process.

It’s not only inconsistent with American values – it’s a violation of basic human rights. And I refuse to be silent while the Trump administration deports more sick kids.
