[ [link removed] ]Katie Porter for Governor

   Dear John,
You may have seen a colorful quilt hanging in the back of my videos or TV
   interviews.
[ [link removed] ]Screenshot from an MSNBC Reports segment showing Katie Porter speaking
on camera. She is sitting in front of a colorful quilt made up of
repeating diamond-shaped patterns in a wide array of colors, including
red, yellow, orange, green, blue, and purple, arranged in diagonal rows.
There’s a story behind that quilt.
It was made by my mom, Liz Porter, who started and grew her own small
business and earned a spot in the Quilters Hall of Fame. She also wrote
quilting books and hosted her own show on public television. I can still
remember falling asleep to the sounds of my mom’s sewing machine.
One of the reasons my mom got into quilting is because she was tired of
things getting undone. As a mom, you pick up your kids’ toys, but they are
back on the floor a couple hours later. You make dinner for your family
one day, and you have to do it all again tomorrow.
Politics can be the same way. We win seats in one election and lose them
in the next. We move forward on health care and climate action, only for a
new administration to threaten to undo that progress.
A lesson I learned from my mom’s journey as a quilter is to focus on what
you can control, and if you start to get discouraged, focus your energy on
areas where you’re already passionate. In this political moment, my advice
to you is to volunteer for a cause you care about or to get involved in a
political campaign that aligns with your values.

consider chipping in to my campaign for governor. I’m running to bring
down costs for families and to stand up to extremists who want to move us
   backwards.

   Thanks for considering,
   Katie
