Remember when Donald Trump called himself the “fertilization president”?
Well, today is the deadline for policy recommendations on how he can expand access to IVF like he promised to do in an executive order earlier this year — and I have a suggestion for him:
Support military families who desperately want to grow their families!
About a quarter of active duty service members and military spouses report infertility — double the national average of the general population. And their struggles make sense.
Just think about the sacrifices we ask of these families. Physically intensive training, long deployments, demanding schedules, frequent relocations — often during prime reproductive years. Not to mention hazardous environments that can negatively impact fertility and the emotional toll of it all.
Despite all of this, our country’s military health insurance plan doesn’t cover fertility services across the board.
I’m proud to represent the biggest military community in the country, and I hear all the time about the challenges service members and their families are experiencing, including infertility.
That’s why I published an op-ed in Fox News today strongly urging President Trump to throw his support behind my bill — the IVF for Military Families Act — which would require military health insurance to cover infertility diagnosis and treatment, including IVF.
Supporting this legislation is the least he could do after calling himself the “father of IVF”!
Starting this year, Members of Congress (and our staff) have access to comprehensive infertility treatment, including IVF coverage — just like many other civilian and private sector employees. Why should we have access to benefits our military families don’t have?
Even so, my Republican colleagues *still* refuse to support my bill!
Bottom line: We ask so much from our service members. To risk their safety, to be apart from their families, and to give up certain freedoms. But we shouldn’t ask them to give up their opportunity to build a family.

And if you agree that military families deserve access to infertility coverage just like Members of Congress and civilians, I hope you’ll sign my petition saying so:
