Yet House Republicans have passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act – a bill that would throw up new barriers to voting, especially for women, seniors, young people and communities of color.

Don’t be fooled by the name, John. If the GOP-held Senate passes the SAVE Act, it will stop millions of Americans from registering to vote by requiring documents many people simply don’t have.

Here’s what we know:

• Over 21 million eligible voters lack the required proof of citizenship under this bill – meaning they could be blocked from voting outright.
• Almost 70 million women could face extra hurdles because their birth certificates don’t reflect their legal names after marriage.
• More than 150 million Americans, especially in rural communities, don't have a passport and would not be able to register to vote.

The SAVE Act is a targeted attempt to silence women, seniors, people of color and working-class Americans by making voting virtually inaccessible.

Why? Because Republicans fear the power of a diverse electorate making their voices heard.
