House Republicans are now advancing legislation that would slash $717 billion in Medicaid spending to help pay for a permanent extension of tax cuts that mainly benefit the wealthy and huge corporations.
One in 5 Americans (from all walks of life) are currently covered by Medicaid — including seniors, children and families. And Medicaid pays for 60% of long-term care services and supports.
Republicans claim these cuts are aimed at reducing waste, fraud and abuse in the Medicaid system. Many of this bill’s supporters have also claimed, without proof, that there is massive waste and fraud in the Social Security program.
John, that’s why the National Committee wants to know your opinion:
The key to protecting benefits has always been for those who rely most on these programs to have a voice in the debate. Since 1982, the National Committee has brought in millions of older Americans to do the job.
As someone with a personal stake in the outcome of this battle, it’s important that I receive your feedbackon this issue ASAP. Please take our poll today so we can continue to represent your voice in Washington on time sensitive issues like this.
Sincerely,
Dan Adcock
