Friend,
Hopelessness. That’s what comes to mind when I picture confused, dehydrated and terrified horses crammed into trucks. They’re trapped in the dark, being driven away from everything they’ve previously known. Then, at the end of the long and painful journey, they’re pushed into a terrifying slaughterhouse to be butchered—even if they’re still breathing. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
We’re fighting to end horse slaughter to protect horses from a brutal death in a slaughterhouse. But we need your help. Please, they are counting on you: Will you make a donation now to Humane World Action Fund, formerly Humane Society Legislative Fund, to help pass strong protections for horses and fight to end the root causes of animal cruelty and suffering?

Here’s a fact: There’s no humane way to slaughter horses. Their sensitive and skittish nature means they are very difficult to render unconscious, prolonging their suffering. The fear and distress horses experience in the slaughterhouse environment often leads to panic, increasing the risk of serious injury before they are slaughtered.
Horse slaughter plants have not operated in the U.S. for years, thanks to our ongoing annual work to ensure no funding is allowed for a USDA inspection program that would oversee their operation. But that has not stopped thousands of horses from being transported across our borders to their deaths. We have an opportunity to stop it by passing the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act, which would ban the export of horses for meat and keep horse slaughter facilities permanently closed on U.S. soil. But we can’t make this legislation and other critical animal welfare bills a priority in Congress without your support. Please, make a donation today to help protect horses from torment and painful slaughter, and end animal cruelty everywhere.
