 Dear Reader,

Why is covering local elections so important? Because 99% (500,000 of the 518,000) of elected officials nationwide hold local offices.

These are mayors, city and county council members, school board members, and more. The policy decisions they make affect almost every aspect of our lives.

Voters often lack a reliable, independent, neutral source of information about candidates and their stances.

That’s why our local coverage is so critical – we are providing that information and giving voters the tools they need to make informed, confident decisions on election day.

How are we doing? In 2024, we covered more than 37,000 local elections and 69,000 candidates. A good start, but not nearly enough.

That’s why I need your help – and why I hope you will accept my invitation today to become a member of the Ballotpedia Society.

Ballotpedia Society members are a core group of supporters whose monthly contributions help Ballotpedia reach, educate, and motivate voters to engage in the democratic process.

SUPPORT BALLOTPEDIA

And that essential support has never been more critical…because this year, we’re providing comprehensive election information about every election on the ballot to voters in 26 states. We’ve already covered nearly 45,000 candidates just in the first half of 2025.

Thirty-five thousand of those candidates appeared on the ballot in the April 1 elections held in Florida, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, South Carolina, and Illinois.

In Illinois alone, we covered 12,325 elections and 25,000 candidates — shattering our previous single-state record from November 2024, when we covered 7,972 elections and 14,000 candidates in Michigan.

I hope I can count on you to help us make this happen by becoming a member of the Ballotpedia Society.

Our team monitors elections and candidate lists while updating thousands of pages to keep the information accurate, current, and accessible to millions of voters across the country. That’s how Ballotpedia ensures that the only unknown on your ballot is who you vote for.

Sincerely,

Leslie Graves
