Miller-Meeks: Supporting Law Enforcement Will Always Be a Priority In every city and small town across Iowa and America, law enforcement officers put on the badge each day not knowing what challenges they might face. They do it anyway—not for recognition or reward—but because they believe in keeping us safe. That commitment deserves more than thanks. It demands action. As a member of Congress, an Army veteran, and someone who proudly represents communities with deep respect for law and order, I will always stand with our police. That means voting for real solutions to the problems they face and ensuring they have the tools, training, and support to do their jobs safely. That’s why I proudly supported two important bills that recently passed the House: The Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act – This bill requires better tracking of violent attacks against officers so we can improve safety and mental health resources. It’s common sense: we can’t fix what we don’t measure. The Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act – This bill allows federal law enforcement officers to purchase their retired service weapons, saving taxpayers money and ensuring the people trained to use these tools maintain access to them. These aren’t flashy headlines. They’re serious, practical steps to back the men and women who back us every single day. We owe our officers more than lip service—we owe them action. I’ve met with officers from across Iowa, and I’ve heard the same message over and over again: they love their communities and want to keep doing this job. But they need Congress to have their backs. In Washington, I’ll keep fighting for them—because law and order shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It’s an American value. And those who uphold it deserve leaders who won’t flinch when it matters. One Big Beautiful Bill After 26 hours of Democrats defending waste, fraud, and abuse, the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. I secured two of my bills in the package to strengthen Medicaid and increase access to care for kids. These are serious reforms focused on accountability, integrity, and putting patients first. It’s time to get the full bill through the House and deliver for the American people. Representing Iowa's First District Rain, wind, or snow—our veterans show up, and so do I. As a veteran myself, it was an honor to greet Iowa heroes from the Quad Cities Honor Flight at the WWII Memorial. Their service will never be forgotten. Great meeting with the Iowa State Police Association in DC during National Police Week. We discussed the need to protect Iowa officers, support their mental health, and ensure our police departments have the resources to recruit and retain the best. I’ll always Back the Blue. Great joining Iowa manufacturers for the Construction on the Mall event in D.C.! From Vermeer to John Deere, our homegrown companies are powering American industry, creating great jobs, and building a stronger future. Iowa leads—and Washington should follow. Great to meet and hear from FBI Director Kash Patel at the “Meet the Cabinet” series event. We discussed the FBI’s work to restore law and order after years of chaos under Biden, including efforts to secure the border and crack down on violent crime. Met with Fuel Iowa to discuss year-round E15 and trucking issues impacting fuel transport. I’ll keep fighting for homegrown energy and the infrastructure that powers Iowa. Had a great time serving up my spinach salad at the March of Dimes Gourmet Gala! Proud to support a cause that champions the health of moms, babies, and families—and always enjoy a little friendly competition in the kitchen! Great meeting with the Alliance for Chemical Distribution to discuss support for Tax Cuts & Jobs Act reauthorization & job creation. Always glad to hear directly from Iowans—especially leaders from Harcos Chemicals in Davenport and Hawkins Inc. in Camanche—about how we can keep American supply chains strong. Great meeting with the Iowa Society of CPAs to discuss tax policy and ways to grow the next generation of accounting professionals. Supporting Iowa’s small businesses starts with a strong workforce. Had a great meeting with Caitlin Russell, President of Russell Construction, whose team is helping build VA outpatient clinics. I’m fighting to cut red tape, extend the Trump tax cuts, and support tools like the CHIP IN Act that empower public-private partnerships to deliver results for our veterans faster. Great meeting with Bettendorf Mayor Robert Gallagher, City Administrator Decker Ploehn, and Assistant City Administrator Jeff Reiter to discuss my work to keep taxes low for Iowa families and small businesses through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act—and how we can support Bettendorf’s continued growth and prosperity. Honored to speak at the St. Ambrose University ceremony recognizing military-connected graduates. As a 24-year Army veteran, it was deeply meaningful to celebrate these men and women who’ve served our country and are now pursuing new paths. Congratulations, thank you for your past and future service! Committee Hearings Progressives want to talk about mansions in New York—I’m here to talk about Iowa family farms. The death tax crushes generational farms and small businesses. And on healthcare? I haven’t forgotten the lies of “premiums will go down $2,500 and if you like your plan, you can keep it.” Neither have the American people. I questioned VA Secretary Doug Collins in a key Veterans Affairs Committee hearing. Sincerely, Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks Visit My Website ### Rep.
