On Friday, right-wing Republicans revolted and failed to advance the Republican legislative proposal that would slash Medicaid benefits and force 13.7 million Americans off of their health care in order to deliver around $5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations.

They didn’t revolt because of the cruelty―these Republicans blocked the bill because they want to cut Medicaid even further.

72 million patients currently rely on Medicaid. It’s the largest provider of long-term care in the country. Under Medicaid, people are healthier and have the security of health care coverage. Republicans want to rip that security away.

The attack on Medicaid is part of the Republican war on seniors that includes their attacks on Social Security and Medicare, and their schemes to make us pay more for prescription drugs.

If we lose this fight, millions of our fellow Americans will lose their health care, and too many of those will die as a result. All so that Elon Musk and Donald Trump can pay a little less in taxes.
