Earlier this week — more than six months after Election Day — Justice Allison Riggs was sworn in for another term on the North Carolina Supreme Court. 

Why the delay? Because her Republican opponent refused to accept defeat and sued to overturn the election.

Justice Riggs' victory proves that when we stand united and fight with unwavering determination, we can defend our democracy against these attacks.

But I need you to understand something critical: This wasn't just about one seat on one court. This was a deliberate test run for a nationwide Republican strategy:

1. Lose a free and fair election
2. File baseless legal challenges that would change the rules of the election after voting is over
3. Use partisan courts to overturn the will of voters

Here in North Carolina, we've often been a laboratory or a showcase for Republicans’ worst anti-democratic experiments. First came the voter suppression laws. Then the extreme gerrymandering. Now they're seeing whether they can simply overturn elections when they don't like the results.

And what they perfect here, they export everywhere.

After all my years fighting for democracy in the Tarheel State, I've learned one unshakable truth: When Republicans lose fair fights, they don't change their policies — they change the rules. And with each passing election, their tactics grow more brazen and more dangerous.

This fight is bigger than North Carolina. It's about the future of free and fair elections across America — from ending gerrymandering to upholding the will of the people.

So while the far right keeps attempting to silence voters, we’ll keep fighting back for a truly representative democracy, where people are free to elect leaders who reflect their beliefs. Will you rush a donation to power this urgent work?
