While Gov. Bob Ferguson celebrates a handful of feel-good bills with a Tri-Cities victory lap, he’s conveniently ignoring the political dynamite waiting back in Olympia.

Here’s what he has not signed yet: the state’s bloated budget and a stack of radical bills that have parents, hospitals, and small businesses sounding the alarm.

Take HB 1296—the so-called “student safety and privacy” bill. Sounds nice, right? Except it would block parents from knowing what their kids are doing at school when it comes to medical decisions. That’s right: government secrecy over parental rights. Even federal agencies are getting involved after OSPI told schools to ignore Title IX guidance under the previous administration.

Then there’s SB 5083, which hikes insurance costs and guts provider reimbursements. If you thought it was hard to see a doctor now, wait until clinics start closing.

While Ferguson poses for cameras, these ticking time bombs are being quietly readied behind the scenes.
