John, members of Congress are racing to pass a disastrous new budget bill that guts Medicaid , increases risks to immigrant families, and undermines access to in-home care and child care for families nationwide.

Which is why last week we held a 24-hour Medicaid vigil and we're bringing care workers, family caregivers, and care recipients from across the country to Capitol Hill to make their voices heard.

It's one thing to talk about hypothetical budget cuts - but it's another to look a constituent in the eyes and tell them they'll lose access to the essential services keeping their family alive.

Last week's vigil, the upcoming lobby day, tens of thousands of petition signatures, thousands of calls, countless hours of in-person advocacy: we are pulling out all the stops to ensure lawmakers can't escape the heartbreaking personal consequences that cuts to Medicaid will create if this bill is passed. Powerful events like in-person lobby days and vigils change minds, but they also take major resources.

If we don't stop the proposed budget bill, vulnerable Americans will lose the critical care they depend on daily to survive, while care workers lose the vital source of income that keeps their families afloat.

Members of Congress are already speaking out, telling the House Speaker they don't support vast cuts to Medicaid. But, to actually stop the bill from passing, we have to keep up the pressure so that the shift in sentiment becomes a shift in votes.

That's why next week NDWA is bringing domestic workers and members of our community straight to D.C. to demand Congress reject these disastrous cuts.

Lawmakers will be forced to reckon face-to-face with the people who'll be directly affected by cuts to Medicaid: people like Elza, a home care worker in Connecticut, who would be forced to shoulder the full financial burden of her mother's care without Medicaid. That’s why we made sure countless stories were shared during last week’s 24-hour vigil—so no lawmaker could ignore this reality before casting their vote.

It's hard to overstate how significant this fight is for our community and the country. But raising our voices together, we know we can win big, and help prevent this nightmare for care workers, caregivers, and millions of families who rely on Medicaid-funded support across the country.
