NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

We are forever grateful for our law enforcement heroes who put themselves into harm’s way to keep our communities safe. During National Police Week, I met with law enforcement officers who traveled to Washington, DC to discuss federal public safety issues. I also voted on the House floor to pass a number of public safety bills, including the LEOSA Reform Act (H.R. 2243), the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act (H.R. 2255), and the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act (H.R. 2240).

  • H.R. 2243 allows qualified law enforcement officers who have committed themselves to their communities the opportunity to continue doing so by extending their concealed carry privileges.
  • H.R. 2255 allows current federal law enforcement officers in good standing to purchase a retired weapon at market value from a federal agency.
  • H.R. 2240 requires the Department of Justice to collect and report data on violent attacks against law enforcement officers, including government responses and gaps in reporting.

TRANSPORTATION SOLUTIONS

I worked hand-in-hand with the city of Temecula to secure a $50 million U.S. Department of Transportation grant during the first Trump administration for the French Valley Parkway Phase 2 project at the southwestern gateway to Riverside County. I'm thrilled to hear that just a few weeks after the project's completion it is already improving the quality of life in our region for families and small businesses. Read more here about the impact it is already making with local residents.

HELPING AMERICAN WORKERS

One of my top priorities in Congress is allowing American workers to keep more of the money they earn in their pocket. The tax bill currently working its way through the legislative process has a number of provisions that I believe will help achieve that goal. These highlights include:

✅ No tax on tips
✅ No tax on overtime
✅ Tax relief for seniors
✅ No tax on auto loan interest
✅ Keeps tax rates low

STOPPING THE FLOW OF DRUGS

Image

I met this week with leaders from the National Guard Counterdrug Program to discuss their ongoing efforts to stop the flow of deadly drugs into our neighborhoods. As Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I have significantly increased funding for this life saving mission.

SUMMER TRAVEL INFORMATION

Image

There are many items (medications, firearms, food products, etc.) that are allowed in checked bags on U.S. domestic flights but are banned in other countries. Avoid customs headaches and even potential arrest by looking up what is and is NOT allowed at your international destination before you pack at travel.state.gov/destination.
