Social Media Safety Index

Holding Tech Accountable: GLAAD's 2025 Social Media Safety Index Demands Change

GLAAD's recently released 2025 Social Media Safety Index shows that while some platforms have made product and policy improvements in the past year, others have retreated from best practices in online LGBTQ safety, privacy, and expression. Overall the scores are alarmingly low. Although the current state of LGBTQ social media safety may seem worse than ever, GLAAD continues to work with all platforms to improve their products, speaking out as a constant voice of advocacy urging all companies to protect LGBTQ people, and especially trans people, online. Trans Rights are on the Line

Your Support Helps Advocacy for Transgender Equality

GLAAD continues to fight back against harmful attacks on the transgender community. In recent weeks, GLAAD responded to a new report from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that came at the request of the Trump administration to ban lifesaving medical care for trans people. We also joined Georgia Equality in opposing Georgia's new law targeting transgender students in sports, despite there being no trans athletes in the state. And after the Supreme Court allowed the administration to enforce a ban on transgender military service, GLAAD again spoke out. With your support, we'll never stop advocating for trans people to live safely and authentically.

From Television to Faith Communities: Advancing LGBTQ Visibility and Acceptance

Earlier this month, GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis appeared on ABC’s The View, where she presented the hosts with this year’s GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Talk Show Episode for their powerful interview with transgender actor Elliot Page. During the segment, The View hosts spoke to their influential audience about why GLAAD’s continued work sharing LGBTQ stories remains so important today. Following Pope Francis' passing, GLAAD shared insights from private meetings where he met with GLAAD staff, LGBTQ advocates from Uganda and Ghana, and transgender people to discuss the urgent need for equality and acceptance. Stand for LGBTQ Equality in 2025

The danger is mounting with hundreds of anti-LGBTQ legislative bills, a tactic that fuels increased — and sometimes fatal — violence towards LGBTQ people, including bullying, targeting of Pride events, bomb and mass shooting threats, and more. But GLAAD’s 40 years of experience and media advocacy expertise means we’re prepared to face it all. Make a donation to GLAAD to amplify our ability to help us fight misinformation and hate, respond to rapid news, and change our culture toward progress. With your support, GLAAD can look forward to another 40 years of accelerating LGBTQ acceptance.
