Dear John, It was a busy week in Washington filled with all-night committee hearings as my colleagues and I take steps to advance some critical policies that will help Ohioans. Keep scrolling for more. First Thing’s First This week, my Republican colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee and I advanced a critical tax package that will deliver generational tax relief. This package, which we debated during an all-night markup, will prevent the largest tax increase in American history that we face when the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires at the end of this year. Yesterday, I spoke on the need to pass this bill at a Budget Committee Hearing. Watch my remarks here. If we get this across the finish line, we will deliver new, historic tax cuts for: - Workers, as we eliminate taxes on tips and overtime.
- Families, as we expand the Child Tax Credit to $2,500 per child.
- Seniors, as we establish a new $4,000 deduction for middle- and low-income seniors.
- Small businesses, as we increase the Small Business Tax Deduction to 23% for 30 million small business.
- Farmers, as we make Death Tax Relief permanent to help 2 million family-owned farms and ranches from being taxed when they are inherited from parents to children.
New from Me: Tax Cuts Op-Ed This week, I published an op-ed in The Columbus Dispatch highlighting the urgent need to deliver tax relief before the end of this year. During my telephone townhall in April, I heard from seniors on fixed incomes, veterans, and workers who have struggled after years of high inflation. Click here to read my op-ed. Social Media Update: | Delivering for Ohio: This week, I secured funding to upgrade the Fayette County Airport’s outdated Automatic Weather Observing System (AWOS). In order to set up Ohio’s economy for growth in the next century, we need to ensure our infrastructure is modernized. I was proud to play a role in securing this grant to upgrade weather observing equipment at the Fayette County Airport. Read more about the grant here. Honoring Officers in Blue: This week was National Police Week, and I want to take a moment to thank every law enforcement officer and reaffirm my commitment to supporting them in Congress. Every day, police officers, marshals, sheriffs, and all other law enforcement officers put on a uniform to protect and serve, not knowing if they will come to their families. As the first ones to run towards danger, I thank them for their brave service and commitment to our communities. | Staying in Touch: It is a privilege to serve Ohio in Congress, and I want to make sure you can keep up with all the news here in Washington.
