I want to write to you for a moment not simply as a VoteVets member, or a retired Major General, but as an American.

These last few months have been difficult.

We have seen a lawless president impose his will through illegal acts at all levels of our government.

We have seen him weaponize the Justice Department against his political enemies.

We have seen him fire seasoned and decorated Military leaders from their posts for no apparent reason than their gender, or the color of their skin.

We have seen him attack the Department of Veterans Affairs, the jobs of thousands of Veterans, and the care that millions of Veterans and their families depend upon.

This is all true. But we have also seen a response to Trump’s dictatorial aims.

I have seen leaders from around the country — many of them Veterans — rally against him. I have seen patriots in every state raise their voices against Trump’s overreach. Here at VoteVets, we have seen a huge number of people get in touch about running for office themselves.

What I have seen is that the American people are ready to push back.

VoteVets is going to continue working around the clock to limit Trump’s power — whether that’s on Capitol Hill, in the court room, or in your community.

But the voices of Veterans are going to be essential to turning the tide against him in 2026, and I am proud that VoteVets is making critical investments to win back the House and Senate and put real checks on Donald Trump and his White House.

We are not giving up. Frankly, we’re just getting started.
