No one should ever fear losing their homes. But every week, dozens of residents face that reality in eviction court in Guilford County, North Carolina. For months, AFSC staff and volunteers have been monitoring eviction court proceedings. We are documenting how quickly people can lose their homes in these hearings without legal representation. And we are building a campaign to demand free legal counsel for all tenants facing eviction.

AFSC's Quaker values have led us to decades of work to uphold the rights and dignity of all people, especially those who are targeted with violence and criminalization. This week, we'll continue that work by marking the 5-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent racial justice uprising. We’ll hear from student organizers who have been targeted for their activism. As always, we will leave you with resources and concrete ideas for changemaking.

Recently, researchers, academics, activists, and others from Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine gathered to explore ways of working together for climate justice. The event was organized by AFSC and the Royal Academy for Nature Conservation. Protecting human rights must be a priority in all development and environmental initiatives, says AFSC’s Khaled Elkouz. Before and during World War II, AFSC worked to help Jews throughout Europe make their way to safety. Our efforts helped more than 20,000 individuals and families escape Nazi persecution.
