Friends,

This week was a reminder of why we fight. We spent long hours in committee pushing back against manufactured outrage and working to restore sanity to critical programs. I called out fear-based narratives, advanced meaningful reforms, and stood firm on principles that put Americans first.

I also joined national media to highlight the real progress we’re making—on border security, criminal networks, and ensuring government works for the people it’s meant to serve.

There’s a long road ahead, but the momentum is real.

Sincerely,

X Post of the Week

At 3:40 a.m. during our 26-hour markup, I pushed back on some of the misinformation being spread about our Medicaid reforms—false claims that have caused real fear for vulnerable Americans. It sparked a strong reaction.

Mornings With Maria

Image
Had a great time on Mornings with Maria today discussing reconciliation, Medicaid reforms, and the latest wave of cartel arrests. We’re seeing real momentum—cartel leadership is cracking, coordination with Mexico is working, and we’re treating these groups like the terrorist insurgencies they are. On Medicaid, we’re focused on protecting the truly vulnerable while cutting waste and abuse to ensure long-term sustainability.

Summer Travel Checklist

Before you head abroad, take a few simple steps to avoid travel disruptions:

  • Check your destination’s entry requirements, local laws, and travel advisories at travel.state.gov/destination
  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date.
  • Review your health insurance—many U.S. plans don’t cover care overseas—and consider travel insurance.
  • Sign up for the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to get safety alerts from the nearest U.S. embassy.
  • Look up which items (including medications) are prohibited in your destination country.
  • If your passport is lost or stolen abroad, contact the nearest U.S. embassy for help.

Preparing ahead of time can help ensure a safe and stress-free trip.

Energy and Commerce Markup

The majority of my week was spent in a 26+ hour Energy and Commerce markup. We debated everything from protecting kids from taxpayer-funded gender procedures to fast-tracking American energy projects by cutting red tape and using user fees instead of bailouts. It was long, intense, and at times exhausting—but worth every minute to pass a bill that puts taxpayers first, restores sanity to Medicaid, and reclaims American energy dominance.

The Crenshaw Amendment

One of the biggest wins from the markup: the advancement of my amendment to block Medicaid, CHIP, and ACA funds from being used for gender-transition procedures on minors. These irreversible, high-risk interventions have no proven benefit and are overwhelmingly opposed by the public. This amendment is about drawing a line—protecting vulnerable kids from fringe medical experiments and making sure not a single taxpayer dollar goes toward this kind of abuse.
