Big Wins for Families—Here’s What’s Happening in Washington, D.C. Dear John,
We have some great policy wins for the family to share from our nation’s capital – which we cannot take for granted. Wins from Washington, D.C., have been few and far between in recent years, but it’s a new day here. These wins are because friends like you prayed, voted and engaged in last year’s election, so we hope you’ll join us in celebrating them! Take It Down Act Heads to the President’s Desk
Our first major win to share comes from the fight to protect children and
families online.
The Take It Down Act, aimed at stopping the
non-consensual sharing of explicit images—including AI-generated “deepfake”
pornography—has officially passed both the Senate and the House. Originally
co-authored by Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), the bill
nearly passed during last year’s Congress and was successful this year, thanks
in part to strong advocacy from its sponsors and the support of First Lady
Melania Trump.
FPA, a longtime backer of the bill and leader in child
online safety, has been invited to attend the signing ceremony at the White
House on Monday, May 19. We’ll be there in person and will share
behind-the-scenes photos and video clips shortly after the event—stay tuned!
On Sunday night, the House Energy & Commerce (E&C) Committee released its “Reconciliation” bill text—and it includes long-awaited language to defund Big Abortion, including Planned Parenthood. FPA has been working tirelessly to make this a reality. While this is a huge milestone, the journey isn’t over. This bill still needs to pass both the House and Senate, and we’re continuing to rally support on Capitol Hill to ensure it becomes law. We’d love for you to take part in the process and assist us in getting this over the finish line. Let your Members of Congress know TODAY that you support Defunding Big Abortion in Reconciliation: (202) 224-3121.
Help Not Harm Provision Added Every Committee in the House of Representatives over the past two weeks has had to share their plan on how to fund the government in relation to their Committee’s jurisdiction. Within the Energy and Commerce Committee we’ve scored a critical win within their Reconciliation bill: an end to Medicaid reimbursements for underage gender-transition procedures. FPA has been at the forefront of promoting the Help Not Harm legislation that (among other things) reverses the financial incentives to medically transition children. This new provision adopts that approach, ensuring children are protected from irreversible medical interventions—and that taxpayer dollars don’t fund them. Child Tax Credit Boost
Pro-family momentum continues in the House Ways & Means Committee, where their Reconciliation bill—released late Saturday night—includes an extension and increase of the Child Tax Credit. Originally part of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the credit was set to expire this year. The new proposal not only renews it but raises the benefit from $2,000 to $2,500 per child—a meaningful step toward supporting working families. We’ll Keep You Posted
The legislative process is still unfolding, but we’re encouraged by the wins we’ve already secured. FPA will continue working on your behalf to protect family, faith, and freedom.
Stay tuned for more updates – from D.C. and the states – and share this with a friend!
