The scourge of revenge porn is nothing new. Perpetrators have inflicted ser=
ious emotional pain our their victims and done lasting damage to our societ=
y. This is unacceptable.
And now to make matters worse, new AI-generative tools make the creation of=
deepfake pornographic images easy for sick criminals. There has been an al=
arming rise in image-based sexual abuse =E2=80=93 with an explosion of case=
s in which vulnerable teenage girls have been targeted.
Last year, I introduced the Take It Down Act to tackle this epidemic of exp=
loitation head on.
The Senate unanimously passed it back in February. President Trump declared=
his support of this landmark legislation during his speech before a joint =
session of Congress, and
first lady Melania Trump has been a vocal advocate for its passage as well.
Last week, the House passed the Take It Down Act on a 409-2 vote and sent i=
t to President Trump=E2=80=99s desk to be signed into law.
This historic win in the fight to protect victims of revenge porn and deepf=
ake abuse will do two primary things:
1. Require online platforms to remove nonconsensual intimate imagery within=
48 hours of a request, and;
2. Make the distribution of such images a crime, punishable by fines or jai=
l time.
I=E2=80=99m proud to have led the charge to get the Take It Down Act across=
the finish line. We put a lot of time and effort into garnering support fr=
om more than 40 organizations across the political spectrum, and pushed har=
d to get this to President Trump as quickly as possible.

And now to make matters worse, new AI-generative tools make the creation of deepfake pornographic images easy for sick criminals. There has been an alarming rise in image-based sexual abuse – with an explosion of cases in which vulnerable teenage girls have been targeted.
Last year, I introduced the Take It Down Act to tackle this epidemic of exploitation head on.
The Senate unanimously passed it back in February. President Trump declared his support of this landmark legislation during his speech before a joint session of Congress, and
first lady Melania Trump has been a vocal advocate for its passage as well.
Last week, the House passed the Take It Down Act on a 409-2 vote and sent it to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.
This historic win in the fight to protect victims of revenge porn and deepfake abuse will do two primary things:
1. Require online platforms to remove nonconsensual intimate imagery within 48 hours of a request, and;
2. Make the distribution of such images a crime, punishable by fines or jail time.
I’m proud to have led the charge to get the Take It Down Act across the finish line. We put a lot of time and effort into garnering support from more than 40 organizations across the political spectrum, and pushed hard to get this to President Trump as quickly as possible.
