UPDATE: The budget bill that could cut over $700 billion in healthcare funding is now set for a full House vote.
Congress' own nonpartisan analysts say MILLIONS of Americans will lose their health care if Congress moves ahead with a dangerous plan to slash Medicaid funding as part of its far-reaching reconciliation bill.
Make no mistake: domestic workers and their families across the country will bear the brunt of the devastating fallout – losing critical access to jobs and essential health care.
We WILL NOT let it happen. Pressure has reached a boiling point with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle speaking out against these massive cuts – but, to keep up the pressure and stop this dangerous bill from passing, we need EVERYONE to stand strong with care workers everywhere.
For months, NDWA has been sounding the alarm that the cuts to Medicaid proposed by the House Majority would spell disaster for vulnerable communities across the country.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has confirmed the devastating consequences of the current proposals, estimating millions of Americans would abruptly lose their health coverage if Medicaid expansions and critical funding are rolled back.
Members of Congress know that slashing Medicaid for their constituents could cost them their jobs. Widespread outcry already forced House leadership to walk back some of the most egregious proposals. But, they’re still racing to find a way to slash hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars from the program, so NOW is the moment to keep up the pressure.
We don’t have much time – this fight will be won or lost in the next few weeks. Which is why next week domestic workers and allies from around the country will gather in Washington, DC for NDWA’s Lobby Day – meeting with legislators and demanding they reject any bill that takes health care away from the workers and families who keep America running. This powerful day of action is just days away – will you add your voice alongside theirs to magnify our impact?
Thanks for all you do,
NDWA Team
Thank you for being a dedicated supporter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance!
We're working day and night to win respect, recognition, and labor rights and protections for the more than 2.5 million nannies, house cleaners, and homecare workers.
The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
