Next week Governor Josh Green will travel to Washington, D.C. to testify before Congress in support of vaccination programs.

Governor Green will appear on May 21 before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which intends to “examine the development and safety of the COVID-19 vaccines.”

Earlier this year, Governor Green — America’s only sitting governor who’s also a medical doctor — testified in opposition to the Senate confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services because of Kennedy’s spread of anti-vaccine misinformation.

“I have seen vaccinations save the lives of children and kupuna in Hawaii and Samoa,” Governor Green said. “I will urge federal authorities to follow the science on vaccines.”

Governor Green’s visit next week follows previous trips to the mainland, where he's met with President Trump and administration officials in the White House, as well as Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Speaking as one physician to another, Governor Green has been making the case to Dr. Oz against harsh cuts to Medicaid.

Governor Green’s contacts in the administration enabled him to lobby successfully to have the Army restore an online page on the Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team as part of the Trump administration’s purge of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

In March, Josh was also able to protect the University of Hawaii from federal cuts just one day after the Trump administration warned UH and several dozen other colleges and universities that they were under investigation for alleged civil rights violations.

“Preventing an unnecessary investigation potentially saved Hawaii $600 million in federal funding that could have been cut off,” Josh said.
