Folks,
This week I met with Salvadoran human rights leaders here in Washington to discuss my legislation to demand transparency on this Administration’s wrongful deportations as well as El Salvador’s human rights record.
Here’s the bottom line: If Trump is going to cut a secret deal to use American tax dollars to send Americans to foreign prisons, all Senators — and the public — need to understand the details about the deportations, including the human rights record of the nation locking up American residents.
This is especially true since the Trump Administration has admitted that some of the deportees were forced out by mistake — and that he’s even looking for ways to deport American citizens.
That’s why I introduced legislation to force transparency from this Administration, both on their own actions and on the Bukele regime’s human rights abuses.
The Senate will vote on this legislation today — if you agree that we must demand answers, I hope you’ll add your name to show your support before the vote.
In the United States and El Salvador alike, security need not and MUST not come at the expense of democracy and basic human rights — and our leaders owe us all clear answers on how they’re using taxpayer dollars behind the scenes.
I’m grateful to have your support on this important issue.
