City of Ann Arbor Update: Reminders for Park and River Visitors - Access Restrictions in Place for Barton Dam Embankment Construction

Learn More button - blue Barton Dam embankment remediation construction kicked off in March 2025, as required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to address seepage and stability concerns. The dam is adjacent to Barton Pond, Barton Nature Area, Bird Hills Nature Area and trails to and along the Huron River. While the river is open for recreation, the city is asking boaters to plan ahead for where they will enter and exit the water and is alerting all visitors to the area, whether by water or by land, to be aware of the potential for construction traffic and to adhere to access restrictions. Please also see the map and further details on the project page.
