Leading the Way: WILL Hosts Second Annual School Board Summit

Last week, WILL held our second annual School Board Summit which hosted over 160 attendees including school board members, administrators, and educators from across Wisconsin.

The Summit is part of WILL's Restoring American Education Project.

Panels during the Summit discussed topics ranging from legal issues impacting school districts, reviving civics in education, and classroom management.

WILL's litigation team specifically addressed questions and updates regarding parental rights, Act 10, and equality in the classroom.

Our keynote speaker was Catherine Price, an award-winning health and science journalist, speaker, and author, who is a leading voice in the national conversation surrounding digital devices and how to create healthy relationships with technology. She discussed the impact cell phones and social media have on children and best practices for school districts to support student success.

WI Delegation Calls on USDA to End Racially Discriminatory Programs Impacting Farmers, WILL Client

Members of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation, including Representatives Tony Wied (R-08), Bryan Steil (WI-01), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Tom Tiffany (WI-07), and Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) are calling on the United States Department of Agriculture to investigate and end discriminatory race- and sex-based policies against Adam Faust, a Wisconsin dairy farmer represented by WILL.

For years, Mr. Faust has actively fought back against discriminatory USDA programs that violate the U.S. Constitution. Despite these efforts, he still faces uncertainty and is subject to several race-based policies that continue to hurt millions of farmers nationwide. If not corrected soon, WILL has promised to file a federal lawsuit against the Trump Administration.

WILL Deputy Legal Counsel, Dan Lennington, stated, “While the Trump Administration has made progress against government-sponsored discrimination, the USDA remains a glaring holdout, inflicting economic pain on millions of farmers based on their race. This isn’t just bad policy, it’s a blatant violation of the Constitution. We commend the Wisconsin delegation for their support of Mr. Faust and farmers across Wisconsin.”

WILL Backs Increased WIAA Transparency

WILL recently submitted testimony in support of Assembly Bill 51, which would require the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) to follow public records and open meetings laws. Though WIAA controls interscholastic athletics for over 90,000 student-athletes across Wisconsin, it operates without the transparency or accountability required of public entities.

WILL's testimony comes on the heels of high school softball player Macy Weigel's case. Macy, a student represented by WILL, was wrongfully denied playing varsity sports after she transferred from a private school her family could no longer afford. WILL intervened, won her a temporary injunction, and just last week, the WIAA granted Macy’s waiver request allowing her to play the sport she loves!

WILL Supports Bill to Protect Wisconsin Elections

WILL supports a bill aimed at ensuring that Wisconsin electors who file election-related complaints with the Wisconsin Elections Commission have a legal right to take their case to court.

A recent Supreme Court decision created serious uncertainty about this issue—but this new bill, backed by WILL aims to fix it.

This legislation ensures that voters can challenge decisions made by the Wisconsin Elections Commission in court, protecting your right to be heard and promoting election integrity.

On Tuesday, a federal grand jury indicted Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan for allegedly helping an illegal immigrant dodge arrest by immigration agents.

An op-ed, authored by WILL President & General Counsel, Rick Esenberg, and Vice President & Deputy Counsel, Dan Lennington, lays out the grave allegations made against Judge Dugan.
