Dear John,
In the midst of daily attacks on our rights and democracy, Connecticut is lucky enough to have the counterforce from the best federal delegation in the country. I couldn’t be more proud of the work they are doing to improve the lives of residents across the state and beyond.
Here's a roundup of some recent actions:
Senator Chris Murphy has been touring Republican-held districts alongside freshman Congressman Maxwell Frost, holding town halls to engage voters on protecting democracy and countering GOP narratives. These events aim to connect directly with constituents in areas where Republican representatives have stopped holding in-person town halls after they started getting tough questions.
Senator Richard Blumenthal , along with Representatives Rosa DeLauro and John Larson, visited striking machinists at Pratt & Whitney’s East Hartford and Middletown plants. They expressed solidarity with over 3,000 workers demanding fair compensation, benefits, and job security, emphasizing the broader significance of the strike for American labor rights.
Representative Joe Courtney , Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, is standing up to the Trump administration, raising concerns about President Trump's reported plan to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from Qatar and use it as Air Force One. He highlighted potential security risks and the ethical implications of accepting such a gift from a foreign government.
Representative Rosa DeLauro , Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, continues to advocate for funding that protects Connecticut’s working families, ensuring access to essential health and education services. In Hamden today, she called attention to the high price of groceries, corporate price gouging in the food industry, and the devastating impact of Republican-led cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Representative John Larson , as a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, is pushing for Social Security expansion and stronger retirement security, ensuring seniors and working families are protected. Yesterday he called on Republicans to join him in stopping the “One Big Beautiful Bill” that would cut taxes for billionaires, paid for with cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act that would kick more than 13 million Americans off their health care plans.
Representative Jim Himes , as the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, is pressing for transparency and accountability in national security scandals like SignalGate. He criticized Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's handling of sensitive information, calling it "an unbelievable cocktail of incompetence."
Representative Jahana Hayes , Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Nutrition and Foreign Agriculture, joined fellow Democrats, farmers, veterans, and parents to oppose a Republican proposal to cut $230 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). She continues to advocate for Connecticut families and the importance of maintaining robust nutrition assistance programs.
From factory floors in East Hartford to classrooms in Waterbury to the halls of Congress, Connecticut’s delegation is working hard and not backing down from the fights that matter.
