![]() Extreme weather and natural disasters are only getting worse with climate change—and Oregon’s farmworkers are some of the hardest hit. When disaster strikes, farmers can lose out on wages and even their jobs—leaving them facing housing and food insecurity. Without federal relief, many of Oregon’s farmers are left to fend for themselves when extreme weather disrupts their ability to work. That’s why I’m proud to reintroduce the Disaster Relief for Farm Workers Act to provide direct support for farmworkers who lose wages—or even their jobs—due to extreme weather or other disasters beyond their control. This legislation is long-overdue. Oregon alone is home to over 100,000 essential farmworkers who grow and harvest Oregon’s food, powering the state’s 42 billion dollar farm industry. They’ve always had our backs. It’s time we’ve had theirs. I will never hesitate to stand up for the brave men and women who feed America’s families—and I’m asking you to stand with me: Please, will you sign my petition and call on Congress to pass the Disaster Relief for Farm Workers Act?
Thank you, Andrea |
