Trump’s backwards thinking (and lies, frankly) on tariffs are raising prices and causing small business failures and layoffs across Pennsylvania and the U.S. Even when he flip-flops on his proposed tariffs, chaos ensues. Frankly, the damage is done at the time of the announcement. It’s clear he doesn’t know what he’s doing, and the GOP is just letting him take a sledgehammer to our economy. I’m disgusted, and I’m using the power of my office in every way I can to keep you informed and fight back. I’ve heard from countless Pennsylvania businesses facing skyrocketing costs, from craft brewers to snack food manufacturers to toy stores. Family businesses that sell products abroad have lost huge revenues overnight, and those that import products have no choice but to pass costs on to consumers. And now, to make matters worse, major PA job providers are being forced to lay off workers due to Trump’s self-inflicted economic chaos.
At the same time, the Trump Administration is slashing social safety net programs like healthcare for seniors and food assistance for hungry children in order to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. This is simply not an administration that cares about working Americans. We all want to see manufacturing jobs return to the U.S. That’s exactly why, under President Biden, Democrats passed the CHIPS and Science Act to support investment here at home. But it can’t happen by force, much less with Trump’s reckless approach and the Congressional GOP completely abdicating responsibility to govern. No matter what the Trump Administration does next, you have my word that I’ll keep fighting for your families, for American jobs, and for responsible governance. — Madeleine
