Hi folks,
I recently spoke with CNBC at their 2025 Changemakers Summit about when I first ran for Mayor of Phoenix in 2019.
That campaign coincided with a tumultuous time in my personal life: My mom had just been diagnosed with stage four cancer, and I was newly divorced with a baby.
Given the circumstances, I didn’t think I could run. Everyone was asking questions about my personal life, and I didn’t want to put myself and my family through all that scrutiny.
A few months after becoming a mother, however, I started to think otherwise. I recognized that all around me were wonderful people who wanted to help me succeed in public service and as a mother—so that is exactly what I did.

I’m often asked what advice I have for folks who want to run for office or make a big life decision, and my answer is simple : don’t wait.
If you share your goal and vision—what you hope to achieve—there are so many people who are willing to help along the way.
I’ve learned you don’t need your life to be “just right” in order to pursue your ambitions. My life has never been perfect, but I believe that’s made me a better mayor, juggling the same challenges and pressures as everyone else.
I’ll always be grateful to the people of Phoenix for being so supportive of me. It’s one of the reasons that, as mayor, I do everything I can to fulfill our city’s ambitions.
Our city has become a hub of innovation, with advanced manufacturing companies and next-generation technology startups finding their home in Phoenix. These organizations are bringing in investments, opportunities, and good-paying jobs to our communities—and helping working families thrive across our city.
I’m excited to serve Phoenix for another four years. We’re in a good place to continue delivering results, and I’d love your support on this work. Contribute today. >> [[link removed]]
