I’m honored to endorse Donavan McKinney, who’s running to represent my
neighboring congressional district in Congress.

Donavan knows our communities’ struggles because he has lived them. Having
grown up with housing and food insecurity, he worked with our state’s
largest healthcare union to advocate for living wages. While serving in
the State House, Donavan has led fights for workers’ rights, economic
security, and clean air and water.

This working class champion is running against an incumbent who: spent
over $17 million of his own wealth to bankroll his own Congressional
campaigns, spent more taxpayer money than any other member of Congress
last year on ads to promote himself, and takes money from corporate PACs.

Meanwhile, Donavan is pushing to get big money out of politics, and has
led policies to challenge corporate PACs and lobbyists. Donavan just
launched his people-powered, grassroots campaign—so now is a crucial time
to demonstrate early support.

future Congressman by splitting a contribution between his campaign and
mine and Justice Democrats, so together we can push for bold progressive
policies and fight back against fascism and oligarchy?

I’ve known Donavan since before he served in public office, and he always
puts community at the center of his work. He’s a true public servant who
puts the people first.

Like me, Donavan grew up in the shadow of corporate polluters in Detroit.
After he and his family developed an asthmatic cough, he began advocating
for environmental justice.

He said, “Raising my two young boys in the same polluted air that I grew
up in means that if I know one thing, it’s this: our kids deserve better.”

Our kids do deserve better, and Donavan has fought hard in the State House
to ensure families can breathe clean air and drink clean water—including
funding over $600 million to replace lead pipes in Detroit and its
suburbs.

I know he’ll join me in the crucial fight for environmental justice in
Congress. And I know that if he makes it to Congress, Donavan McKinney
will be a partner who will act with the urgency we need to meet this

Donavan has also led fights for public education and public transit, as
well as much-needed changes to transform our racist criminal legal system.
He delivered more than $10 million in community violence intervention
programs to our region. He’s also fighting for Black maternal health,
housing protections, and universal healthcare. This is what true public
safety looks like.

We need Donavan in Congress serving the people. His self-funded opponent
doesn’t have to raise money for his election campaigns. But Donavan does.
