John,
It’s been a busy week protecting life and working on budget reconciliation, but I wanted to take a moment to update you on the important work we are doing to advance conservative values.
It was a historic week for Catholics: for the first time ever, the 267th pope comes from the United States. Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Prevost of Chicago, Pope Leo XIV!
Last weekend, my husband Scott and I were honored to receive the 2025 Life Defender Award at Life Legal Defense’s annual fundraising dinner, in recognition of our years-long fight for the rights of the unborn. It is an honor to stand side by side in this work to end abortion in the United States. Thanks to the courageous decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the leadership of the most pro-life president our country has ever seen, we’ve made historic progress. But the fight to change hearts and minds continues. This week, I reintroduced the MOMS Act, which provides crucial support to new mothers during and after pregnancy. The bill has strong backing from my Republican colleagues, and, most importantly, the American people. In order to save the unborn, we must provide women with love and support when becoming a mother. My proposed legislation will help women carry their baby to term and guide them on raising their child. We are a nation founded on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To truly live up to those values, they must apply to every life—including the unborn.
Based upon the recommendation of Representatives Emmer, Stauber, Finstad and myself, President Trump has nominated Daniel Rosen to serve as the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota. I applaud this nomination as our state has been facing a crisis of lawlessness, fraud, and weak accountability under Governor Walz. The Feeding Our Future scandal exposed hundreds of millions of dollars in fraud, and it’s just one of many state programs that have allegedly been looted through lax controls on his watch. It’s clear we need a U.S. Attorney who will uphold the Constitution and federal laws in situations where they apply to the state government. With over 30 years of legal experience in both federal and state courts, Mr. Rosen brings the experience, independence, and character needed to deliver justice for Minnesotans. As such, I urge the Senate to move swiftly and confirm him.
Finally, I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to everyone taking care of the next generation - moms, nanas, step-moms, foster moms and more. Our families and our country are better because of your love and dedication.
