Let’s be clear: Trump’s latest (and illegal) executive order to defund PBS and NPR is a direct attack on our kids, our classrooms, and our local communities.

As a former school board member, I’m fighting back in Congress to protect these public broadcasting services that provide education, entertainment, and fact-based information for our children. Will you sign my short petition to stand up for PBS and NPR and demand Congress to protect these services that so many families rely on?

When I first ran for office, it was to serve on the Chapel Hill-Carroboro Board of Education — because I wanted every child to have access to high quality education, no matter their zip code or background.

I’ve seen first-hand how public broadcasting provides free, accessible programming that allows every child to nurture their literacy and social development. PBS shows like Sesame Street teach our kids how to build relationships and resolve conflicts, while NPR’s educational content helps them read and understand the world around them.

Trump’s political stunt to defund PBS and NPR directly threatens the future of our kids — especially those who come from rural or underserved communities where public broadcasting might be the only source of news and entertainment.

As someone who’s spent her career fighting for education, I won’t stand for this. That’s why me and my Democratic colleagues are leading the fight to safeguard PBS and NPR and continue funding their critical services that our families rely on.
