We just witnessed one of the most brazen attacks on environmental protections yet.
The Trump administration dropped a budget proposal that would gut EPA funding and eliminate its independent research unit, the Office of Research and Development. That same day, Administrator Zeldin quietly announced a plan to scatter agency scientists across unrelated departments to fast-track chemical approvals.
This is no accident. It’s a calculated and underhanded attempt to dismantle environmental science from the inside out and clear a path for polluters. We can do better than this, John, but we have to speak out.
SEEC Vice Chair Rep. Chellie Pingree (ME-01) said it best: “Dismantling the EPA’s Office of Research and Development is an unconscionable attack on science and public health.” Congress explicitly funded this office — Trump and Zeldin are ignoring that.
Thanks for standing up for truth, science, and clean air.
