John — When I decided to go to community college to become a teacher, I did not tell anyone. Honestly? I was afraid to fail.
It was hard, but I did not fail. I persevered. And became the teacher I had always aspired to be.
For 15 years, I woke up before the sun rose and made my way to my classroom to shape the minds of the next generation. I was even named the National Teacher of the Year in 2016.

The lessons I learned as an educator are lessons I carry with me today. I have seen how a quality education can lift people out of a poverty cycle and put them on a pathway to success. Teachers are a crucial part of communities nationwide.
But the thing is, John, we are in a new era where teachers do not feel rewarded for the work they do in the classroom. They are underpaid and overworked. They are often coming out of pocket to pay for classroom supplies. Class sizes are growing as teachers leave the profession.
And we cannot count on the Trump administration to fix this problem. From slashing the Department of Education to reducing state and local funding for schools and more, the GOP is hurting our kids.
I am fighting back — because we need to support our schools.
As a member of the House Committee on Education and Workforce, I am fighting every day to deliver for our teachers and our students. Will you add your name right now and stand with me in support of our educators?
I have seen the things our students face, and I faced those same things as a student myself. My educational journey was not linear, and I know how important it is to have the support to navigate your pathway to success.
Teachers deserve so much more than we are currently giving them, John, and I will always fight for the dignity our teachers deserve.
Thanks for your support today,
Jahana
