John,
Happy Pride Month!

It is important to take time in this transformative moment to celebrate, honor, and center the legacy of the LGBTQ community and the ongoing fight for justice.

Today's movements for equality and equity--as Americans take to the streets to demand an end to police violence and a society in which Black Lives Matter--evoke the very origin of Pride Month.

Because we cannot forget:

Pride started as a protest led by queer and trans individuals of color -- like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera -- against police brutality.

And from that first protest in June 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, to this moment we are in today fifty-one years later: BIPOC queer and trans activists have been leading the fight for justice for all.

This Pride Month, and always, we must keep these individuals at the center of our work. We must remember and uplift the work of Black and POC queer activists and leaders, past and present. We must be inclusive-- yes -- Black Trans Lives Matter!

Systems of oppression work together. And so our fight for justice needs to be intersectional.

It's time to demonstrate, to legislate, and to enforce our laws with this in mind. As Attorney General, I will follow this guidance and I will continue to be an ally in the movement for a more just, inclusive Oregon.

No one's equal until everyone is equal.

Ellen
