Saturday Was a Historic Day in Texas: Senate Bill 2, School Choice, Has FINALLY Been Signed Into Law!

I joined Governor Greg Abbott, Speaker Dustin Burrows, Senate Education Chair Brandon Creighton, Representative Brad Buckley, and other state and local officials this past Saturday for the bill signing of our historic school choice legislation. Senate Bill 2, School Choice, has FINALLY been signed into law!

SB 2 establishes an education savings account (ESA) program that gives parents a broader choice to direct their child’s school funding. The program will be administered by the Comptroller, and its capacity is 100,000 students. Eligibility is universal, with 80% of funds going to families with special needs children or households earning under $161,000 per year.

The days of limiting millions of Texas students to a one-size-fits-all approach are over.

UT’s Civitas School Launches as a National Model for Western Values and Leadership

Several years ago, a group of conservative leaders came to me with the idea of establishing a school at the University of Texas at Austin that would teach Western culture, civic leadership, and the values and principles that made America and Texas great. I put $6 million in our state budget, which The University of Texas at Austin matched, and this important school was on its way. Yesterday, we had the official launch of the school. UT committed $100 million yesterday to build a state-of-the-art building that will be home to “Civitas” to teach these principles of our heritage. This will be a national model for universities across the country to build on.

Last week, I joined Rob Finnerty on Newsmax from the White House lawn following President Trump’s signing of an Executive Order establishing the Religious Liberty Commission, which I am honored to have been selected to chair. No one has stood for religious liberty like President Trump. Click here to watch the interview [[link removed]].

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Texas Senate Has Passed ALL Top 40 Priority Bills!

[[link removed]][link removed]

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Texas Senate has passed ALL its top 40 priority bills over to the Texas House. Some highlights of the Senate’s top 40 priorities [[link removed]] include:

* Eliminating school property taxes for the average Texas senior homeowner with the $200,000 homestead exemption ($140,000 homestead exemption for non-senior homeowners)
* Requiring local law enforcement to assist the federal government’s deportation efforts, known as 287(g), to help continue to secure the border
* Passing the largest launch of a school choice program in the history of the country for up to 100,000 students in the first year
* Placing the 10 Commandments back in schools
* Providing time for students to pray in public schools
* Increasing grid reliability and addressing the water shortage in Texas

With the clock ticking, the House must prioritize and deliver conservative priorities to the governor’s desk. The Senate has passed them already. It is time to begin moving Senate bills in the House. Democrats must not be allowed to obstruct the passage of key bills and joint resolutions. The next bill the House should pass is property tax relief.

June 2, Sine Die (end of session), is only a few short weeks away. Texans are watching the House with great interest.

Dennis Paul has everything needed to be a Texas Senator. He has a 12-year track record of being a stalwart conservative who keeps a laser focus on serving the people of his district. He will be a tremendous asset to the Texas Senate. With his experience in the Texas House, he will be effective on Day 1 as a Senator. I am proud to endorse him [[link removed]] as the next Senator from District 11.
