Email from Rep. Nehls Rep. Troy E. Nehls `Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington, D.C. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Pass Bill to Codify President Trump's Executive Order H.R. 276, the Gulf of America Act, codifies President Donald J. Trump's executive order renaming the Gulf of America. I am a proud original cosponsor of this bill, and am proud to announce that this week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed this bill, marking House Republicans' first vote to codify one of President Trump's executive orders. The Gulf of America is the largest gulf in the world, and the U.S. coastline along the Gulf spans over 1,700 miles and contains about 160 million acres. The Gulf is one of the largest oil and gas regions in the world, providing about 14 percent of our nation's crude-oil production and an abundance of natural gas. Hardworking Americans are footing the bill to protect and secure the Gulf of America's maritime waterways so that commerce can be conducted, and it's only right that the Gulf is named appropriately. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Witness Panel at House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee Hearing The House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials held a hearing titled "Improving Federal Rail Assistance." During the hearing, I questioned the witness panel about the importance of the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant program regarding rail safety. Unfortunately, our federal government is plagued by inefficiency, and oftentimes it takes years for applicants to be approved for CRISI grants, which are used to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of intercity passenger and freight rail. Further, it takes years for the funds to be disbursed to the applicants, which can delay crucial projects that enhance safety. In the hearing, I also talked about the legislation I introduced in the 118th Congress with Congressman Seth Moulton, the bipartisan Railway Safety Enhancement Act of 2023. My bill would have authorized an additional $1 billion in funds for the Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program. Rail crossings are the most dangerous part of America’s rail network, in part because this is where our nation’s highway and rail systems meet. Removing as many rail crossings as possible will help reduce deaths and relieve congestion in the rail network. I questioned a witness about how critical it is to remove these dangerous crossings. Across our country, more than 2,000 incidents and 200 fatalities occur at grade crossings each year. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Meets with the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association This week, I had the pleasure of meeting with the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association (TTMA). During our meeting, we discussed insolvency issues related to the Highway Trust Fund (HTF) and issues impacting the truck trailer manufacturing business community. I proudly stand with our nation's truckers and manufacturers who move critical goods and services across our great country. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Pass H.R. 881 My House Republican colleagues and I took action this week to stop the national security threat posed by Confucius Institutes. I proudly voted "YES" to pass H.R. 881, the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act. This bill would prohibit the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from providing funds to any higher education institution that hosts Confucius Institutes, which are nonprofit cultural and educational centers funded by the Chinese government. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is trying to undermine our educational institutions. House Republicans are committed to securing our college campuses and ensuring that your hard-earned tax dollars aren't supporting Chinese ideology. Rep. Troy E. Nehls' Fulshear District Office Hosts Service Academy Day I'm hosting a Service Academy Day on Saturday, May 31, 2025. This event would allow all TX-22 to learn how to attend one of the United States Service Academies. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must apply and meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application to be considered for an interview with the nomination review board in our office. Please note that the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. In addition to staff from my office, representatives from all five academies (U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U.S. Coast Guard Academy) and current academy cadets and midshipmen will be on hand to answer questions. Students, parents, and educators will be able to hear from and meet with representatives on a one-on-one basis to become informed about the excellent opportunities associated with attending these premier educational institutions and the careers they generate. This forum is free; however, pre-registration is required and can be found on my website HERE. It will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Rosenberg Civic Center. Doors will open at 9:30 AM for check-in. To apply for a U.S. Service Academy, please visit my website and complete the application. Applications are due no later than October 10, 2025, at 5 PM CST. The application can be found HERE. If you have any questions, please email
