Dear Friend,

Fourteen years ago, this Mother's Day weekend, we changed the landscape of climate activism forever.

In May 2011, as mothers across the country received flowers and handmade cards, our team at Our Children's Trust was launching something unprecedented: coordinated legal actions in all 50 states asserting children's inalienable right to a stable climate and the atmosphere as a public trust.

Today, I've shared a personal reflection on that pivotal Mother's Day weekend, how it changed the course of climate litigation worldwide, and where we stand 14 years later:

The Birth of Our Children's Trust: A Mother's Day to Remember

In the years since that groundbreaking weekend:
*
+ Our youth plaintiffs have spoken truth to power in courtrooms across America
*
+ We've expanded our global work, supporting youth-led climate litigation worldwide
*
+ We've won landmark victories, including the historic Held v. Montana case, affirming constitutional rights to a safe climate

None of this would have been possible without allies like you who believed in our vision of a rights-based approach to climate justice.

As we mark this anniversary, the next chapter of our story is about to unfold. The groundwork has been laid, legal precedents established, and our coalition strengthened. What comes next will redefine what's possible.

Join us in reflecting on this journey by reading my personal account of that remarkable Mother's Day weekend and sharing it with others who understand that our children's future is worth fighting for.

With gratitude and determination,

Founder, Co-Executive Director, & Chief Legal Counsel
