John,
This Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you. Before my journey into public service, I stood where you stand—teaching math to sixth graders in Wilmington. Those experiences shaped my understanding of the challenges and triumphs Delaware educators face daily.
As your governor, I carry those lessons with me. That's why we're taking bold steps to support our educators and students:
Investing in Literacy: We've declared a statewide literacy emergency and are directing $6 million straight into classrooms to ensure every child can read proficiently by third grade.
Raising Educator Pay: A proposed $75 million initiative aims to make Delaware's teacher salaries competitive with neighboring states, helping to attract and retain top talent.
Funding Reform: We're working to implement a new, equitable school funding formula that ensures resources are allocated based on student needs.
Universal Pre-K: Plans are underway to provide access to pre-kindergarten education for all Delaware children, laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
We’re not done yet — but I promise you this: we will continue to prioritize those who make learning possible.
