John -

We have a new pope! There have been so many feelings and expectations leading up to the election of Pope Leo XIV. We give thanks to God and ask the Holy Spirit to renew his faith and courage as this new chapter of his vocation begins. The Ignatian Solidarity Network (|SN) is particularly edified by Pope Leo’s focus across his ministry and leadership in the Church. His vocal support of the dignity of all human beings and their right to migrate in pursuit of a dignified life encourages ISN’s work with
young people with various documentation statuses, empowering and forming them to be leaders who transform the narrative around immigrants in society.

Backing Pope Francis’ vision for a Church that cares of creation, Pope Leo stated, “‘Dominion over nature’—the task which God gave humanity—should not become ‘tyrannical.’ It must be a ‘relationship of reciprocity’ with the environment.” We are heartened to see this alignment with ISN’s integral ecology work, affirming programs like the Ignatian ENERGY STAR Pilot Program and the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance (CEPA), which supports Catholic institutions seeking to integrate their Catholic values into their purchasing through educational resources, immersive formational opportunities, networking, and mentorship.

In every new beginning, the unknown brings anticipation and anxiety. Join us in praying for Pope Pope Leo XIV, entrusting his pontificate to the Holy Spirit and praying that he emboldens all of us to fill the void and thirst in our world for leaders that welcome, celebrate, and uplift individuals and communities, especially those on the societal margins.

A PRAYER AT THE START OF
POPE LEO XIV'S PONTIFICATE

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and enkindle in them the fire
of your Love.

We give thanks for your role
in the selection of Pope Leo XIV
to lead our Church.

Renew the strength and courage
you have granted him throughout
his vocation to witness the
redeeming love of Jesus Christ.

Loving God, through your grace,
you have formed his heart
and accompanied him in
consolation and in desolation.

May his words, acts, and gestures
reflect your boundless love,
moving the world to be
evermore invited and included in
the co-creation of your kin-dom.

We ask all this through Christ,
our Lord.

Amen
