Passport Program features Cowboy Trail, two state park areas

A sweeping bridge along the Cowboy Trail

Stamp your passport while visiting some amazing outdoor spaces!

The 2025 Nebraska Passport Program features a themed tour — "Lasso Lane" — in honor of the Cowboy Trail's 30th anniversary. This tour includes seven stops along the Cowboy Trail [ [link removed] ].

Two Nebraska state park areas are also on the list: Lake Minatare [ [link removed] ] and Windmill [ [link removed] ] state recreation areas. Go on an adventure this summer and discover these scenic gems!

Nebraska Bird Month features bird-themed events

Each year, May is Nebraska Bird Month, and it's time to celebrate! More than a dozen events are planned, including guided hikes, hand-built feeder workshops and birding bingo. Find an event near you; all are hosted by Nebraska Game and Parks and various partner organizations.

Join us for memorial grove dedication May 17

Join us for special event on May 17 honoring Burt County military members and first responders! As part of the Nebraska Memorial Forest project, Game and Parks donated 92 trees to Summit Lake State Recreation Area, each representing a fallen military member, first responder or law enforcement officer.

The dedication ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on May 17. This is also Free Fishing and Park Entry Day, so visitors won't need a permit to enter the park or enjoy some fishing there.

Every year, on Free Fishing and Park Entry Day, you can go fishing or visit state parks for the day without needing a permit to do so. This year, it falls on May 17. If you've never been fishing, come to a free event and learn!
