Last week, the Trump family company struck a deal to build a luxury golf resort in Qatar.
The resort will be developed by a Qatari company that is owned by the Qatari government. That is a violation of the Trump Organization’s (very weak) ethics pledge not to pursue deals with foreign governments.
This deal creates a massive conflict of interest for Trump, who will have to weigh American foreign policy decisions against his own personal financial interests.

During Trump’s first term, his failure to divest from his business interests and decision to remain involved with the Trump Organization led to thousands of conflicts of interest and blurred the lines between the government and his businesses.
His Washington, DC hotel hosted foreign governments and special interests groups who were looking to gain influence with the president, while Trump personally profited.
And his second term is no different John. In fact, it’s getting much worse.
Trump properties continue to attract business from those seeking to curry favor with the president, including Qatari and Saudi Arabian officials who rent or own spaces at Trump properties. But he’s also actively pursuing new business entanglements with foreign countries.
With the new Qatari golf resort, Trump now has 20 Trump-branded real estate projects under development in foreign countries, which is both staggering and unprecedented.
John, six of those ongoing developments are in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and Trump just so happens to be visiting all of those countries on his trip to the Middle East next week.
Trump will once again be in a position to make American policy decisions that could directly impact his personal business interests, posing a serious conflict of interest.
