People know me from daytime soaps. What you may not know is I identify as queer.

Hi John,

I’m Karla Mosley. If you’re a fan of daytime, you might know me from Guiding Light, The Bold & the Beautiful, or in my current role as Dani Dupree on CBS’s Beyond the Gates, the first daytime television soap opera in over 30 years to feature a predominantly Black cast.

What you might not know is that I identify as queer. And sharing that publicly [[link removed]] has taken time, space, and a lot of self-exploration.

For a long time, I told myself I didn’t need to talk about it — that maybe I wasn’t “queer enough,” or that being in a relationship that looks heteronormative meant I didn’t get to claim space in queer conversations. But I know better now.

Because the truth is: Queerness doesn't look one way. There is no deadline for discovering who you are.

That’s why I chose to share my story with It Gets Better, which you can watch now on It Gets Better's YouTube channel [[link removed]]. Because there’s real power in naming it, especially for those who haven’t yet found the words. When we let young people see the full spectrum of queer identity, we show them what’s possible.

So many LGBTQ+ youth are still navigating the world without mirrors, at a time when the voices telling them their lives don’t matter are louder than ever. They’re growing up with fear, shame, or silence where there should be affirmation.

But stories like these help flip the script. And supporting programs that center queer joy [[link removed]], amplify youth voices, and meet young people where they are? That changes lives.

I’m proud to stand with It Gets Better and remind LGBTQ+ youth that they matter. That their stories matter. That there’s no one way to be queer — but every queer young person deserves the freedom to figure out who they are on their own terms.

With love,

Karla Mosley (she/they)

actress, Beyond the Gates
