Voter registration, which historically peaks in a presidential election year, is one more casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Virginia, the bulk of voter registrations come through the Department of Motor Vehicles, which has just begun to reopen by appointment.
Two charts show how statewide registrations ([link removed]) for the year are running about 40,000 below the pace set in 2016.
