Hi John,
I’m pleased to share with you a new series of short films produced by Global Justice Now. Titled ‘Two Worlds’, these films expose the big pharma companies that are putting profit before health – and the people fighting back to make medicines accessible to all.

Each of the seven short films is a personal testimony from the sharp end of a deeply unjust system. Activists, patients, and health workers describe a global health divide, where huge parts of the world are prevented from accessing vital medicines.

But these are also stories of hope – showing a glimpse of a better future, with doctors, patients and international movements organising to resist profiteering, while scientists work together to build a new way of making medicines for the common good.

We started working on this project at the peak of the vaccine inequality of Covid-19, but these stories show how big pharma’s ruthless profiteering during the pandemic was no one-off. From jacking up the prices of life-saving HIV drugs to disregarding diseases like Ebola because they mainly affect people in lower-income countries, it’s clear this is a broken model.

At a time when aid cuts are hitting health systems globally, the need to end the corporate stranglehold over medicines production and bring prices down is as great as ever.

From our office in London, we coordinated with filmmakers from five different countries to make these films – and we were very grateful to have the support of a brilliant team of film industry professionals.

It has been an inspiring experience for us to work with the people featured in these films – and I hope you find their stories galvanising too.
