![]() When I first took office two years ago, Pennsylvania was facing a serious teacher shortage. But John, I didn’t wait around and just hope that the problem would magically solve itself. As Governor, I took immediate action to make sure our teachers get the support they deserve. Over the last two years, we’ve cut the processing time to get an initial teacher certification by 10 weeks, and funded stipends to help student teachers finish their mandatory training for the first time in Pennsylvania history. But I know we can do even more to help our students succeed in the classroom. That’s why my new proposed budget doubles down on our investment in student teachers, encouraging thousands of educators to stay in their field, earn a living wage, and achieve their dream of teaching the next generation right here in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania’s students deserve the best education we can give them — and that starts with supporting the hardworking teachers who make that education happen. This Teacher Appreciation Week, I couldn’t be more proud to celebrate and support their critical work. Thank you, Josh Shapiro |
