Folks,

The latest string of heinous police violence against Black
Americans - the brutal killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery,
and Breonna Taylor - have put a microscopic lens on policing and
accountability for law enforcement.

I wanted to share with you the work House Democrats are doing
to take action and demand justice.

My colleagues and I in the House Judiciary Committee held an
oversight hearing this week on policing practices and law
enforcement accountability to guide our work as we continue to
draft legislation to change the system and hold law enforcement
accountable.

I have also signed onto various pieces of legislation,
including the Justice in Policing Act, which would:

End the use of chokeholds
Establish a National Police Misconduct Registry
Demilitarize local police departments
End racial profiling
Mandate body cameras
Incentive accreditation of police departments with national standards

I hope you'll join me and sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of
the Justice in Policing Act. We cannot wait any longer for action
on police brutality and injustice →

Congressional action is just one part of the many reforms
needed on the city, state, and national levels to ensure
accountability for law enforcement and justice for those who have
been let down by the criminal justice system.

I will continue to provide oversight, ask questions, and seek
answers on an unapologetic pursuit of justice for the families of
George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, and countless
others who have been victims of racism.

In solidarity,

-- David
