We can’t miss this chance.

Hey John,
We’re at a critical moment in the fight to stop Zenith Energy’s dangerous oil-by-rail operations in Portland. The only in-person public hearing for Zenith’s air pollution permit is happening next week – and we need you there.
📍 Monday, May 12 | 6:00pm | Buckler Center Auditorium, University of Portland
(5000 N Willamette Blvd, Portland, OR 97203 ([link removed]) )
Join us outside at 6:00pm for pizza, a short rally, and a quick guide on how to testify. The official Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) hearing is 6:30pm-9:00pm. Wear red, bring your friends, and let’s pack the room with community power.
RSVP ([link removed])
This hearing is part of the public comment period for Zenith’s Air Contaminant Discharge Permit – the same one that was paused last year after DEQ’s surprise investigation that uncovered unauthorized oil operations and led to a $372,600 fine for Zenith. Despite this, Zenith is back with another permit application, and DEQ is giving the public a narrow window to speak up. On the heels of the Portland Auditor’s recent announcement ([link removed]) that she will not be taking up the investigation into Zenith Energy’s operations that was called for by City Councilors, we can’t miss this chance to hold the Texas-based fossil fuel company accountable.
Here’s what you can do:
* Testify in person: Join us May 12 ([link removed]) for the hearing and sign up to give a 2-minute comment (we’ll help you prep).
* Join the crowd: Not ready to speak? Just showing up in red and supporting our frontline partners goes a long way.
* Submit a written comment: Use this action alert ([link removed]) or email the Northwest Region Air Quality Permit Coordinator (mailto:
[email protected]) directly by 5:00pm on May 30.
* Testify at virtual hearing: There’s also a virtual hearing on May 15 ([link removed]) , if that works better for you.
* Donate: If you want to come at this fight from all angles with us, support the lawsuit ([link removed]) brought by our friends and partners that is attempting to stop Zenith in the courts.
Zenith Energy has no place in a clean energy, climate-safe future. Our communities have said it over and over and over again: we want a just transition off of fossil fuels – not explosive oil trains. Let’s make sure DEQ hears us loud and clear.
In solidarity,
The Breach Team
